Thursday Feb 21st, Opening of “Nu Perspectives” Project

I had the pleasure of  being one of a select few artists to paint a guest room at the Nu Hotel in downtown Brooklyn as part of their ‘Nu Perspectives’ project. This thursday is the opening which will be in 3 parts. From 6-7, we are having a reception at the Urban Folk Art® gallery across the street from the hotel. The show that is up there is the gallery’s 2nd anniversary show with new work from myself and J$N $#!+#3@D Mitchell. At 7pm we head to the Hotel for a reception that includes some free booze, and tours of the rooms, as well as some artwork in the lobby from all of the artists. Everyone is welcome, but you have to RSVP by this tuesday to get on the list for the hotel reception ( After 10, the after party is at Bar Tabac down the block. Below is a stop motion of the hotel room I did, filmed and produced by friend Jason Shaltz.

here’s some press on the event.

From the hotel’s website:

A hotel room with a view of the Manhattan Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Williamsburg Savings Bank? That’s geographically impossible! Not at NU Hotel Brooklyn, where guests can immerse themselves in the borough when staying in select guestrooms painted with Brooklyn-themed floor to ceiling murals.

As part of the NU Perspectives project, the 93-room boutique hotel has given creative license to five local artists to liven up the largest guestrooms. The hotel’s white walls and loft-like design serve as a blank canvas on which artists can put their signature creations. The murals give the rooms color and an edge, while maintaining a comfortable feel and a uniquely Brooklyn look.

Select guestrooms are works of art in their own right, as they have been hand-painted by local artists with Brooklyn-themed murals from floor to ceiling. Meet the artists behind the NU Perspectives project:

Current show up at UFA® Gallery with me and Jason $#!+H3@D

Urban Folk Art®  Gallery celebrated our 2nd year anniversary with a show of my and Jason $#!+#3@d Mitchell‘s work. We are both original founder’s of the Urban Folk Art® Collective that was formed in 1991. It’s some brand new stuff for 2013. Here’s a look at some of it. It will be up through Feb, with a meet and greet in late feb in coordination with the Nu Hotel’s “Perspectives” Opening, where local artists (Including me) were asked to paint guest rooms over at the hotel. Information coming (or contact me). Click here to see some shots of us silkscreening the show posters, and more shots of Jason’s art and opening. And here are some shots from Jason. Come on down and check it out.
